BAIFALL DREAM by MIKE SYLLA
On February 29th, Senegalese designer Mike Sylla brought his Baifall Dream collection to the National Black Theater in Harlem. Sylla who currently resides in Paris has been visiting friends, and associates in New York. The designer has plans for future shows in New York. This one was of two presentations hosted at the National Black Theater for this designer. He presented pieces from his collection at an event there the previous week.
Sylla works with leather and his bold leather coats and jackets feature cool luminous colors and bold symbolic designs that evoke an His pieces also feature Africentric portraits painted in the backs of some of the coats and jackets. It is another aspect of the fusion of modern, and traditional that is a feature of Mike Sylla’s designs.
NYFW FW20 LIUSAL – Season V – Love. Is. Universal. Strive. Achieve. Longevity
The LiuSal fashion brand was created 4 years ago. On February season five.10th Designer LiuSal Step[hens presented his season V collection during NYFW.. The production was a collaborative effort, and was based on his past collections.
As the designer stated “The collection is really based on my past season. Everyone is like E.T.s and everyone is futuristic. Everybody looks at us like we’re not part of this world. I kind of based it off of that” .
Part of the goal of the collection is making brand more relatable to the masses. Everything is multi functional, and versatile. The collection is bold, youthful, and vibrant. It’s a concept that transcends age. The diversity of the size, and age of his models demonstrated that the concept isn’t just something that sounds good.
LiuSal definitely represents the future of fashion. It’s a brand that is innovative, forward thinking, and not afraid to forge new paths.

HAKAN AKKAYA’S AMISH PUNK
Turkish Designer Hakan Akkaya brought his collection to NYFW on February 8th. The collection was presented at Pier 59. Akkaya describes his latest collection as Punk Amish. there is no shortage of fashionistas in Turkey. Fashion is a big part of the life in Turkey. Istanbul is as cosmopolitan is as New York City. Hakan Akkaya draws inspiration for his work from this diversity. His collection, and his models reflect this diversity. His interpretation of the Amish aesthetic is masterfully done.
ASIA FASHION COLLECTION – NYFW FW20
On February 10, a representing some of Asia’s most talented emerging designers presented collections during New York Fashion Week FW20. The Asian Fashion Collection featured seven brands brought together for the event by Vantan Inc.and PARCO. Co. Ltd The brands featured in the collections were: Chalisa by Chalisa Anekvorakul (Thailand), aNANA tih sayim by Nana Miyashita (Japan), Zizi Shi by Chaohua Shi – Parsons (born in China), VEGAN TIGER by Yang Yoona – So,uth Korea, KTOKA by Shiki Cara Kataoka (Japan), Ito by Kurumi Ito, Taisho Takenaka (Japan), SEANNUNG by Liao Sean Nung(Taiwan).
The palette featured earthy tones with pops of color and whimsical prints that evoked a playful fall/Halloween season motif. A great take on the modern infused with a traditional aesthetic.
